I've played games like this in the past, but none of them have been as enjoyable as this. I don't think any of them have ever really made me want to replay them to be honest, so well done on that. I love that there's a ghost :)
I've been ejoying this game so much, it's just a shame there's only 5 levels so far! :P Managed to fully complete it and I still want to play more! I don't really have anything bad to say about it, just keep doing what you're doing and I really look forward to the full game. One thought I did have was that you could implement good ol' gun upgrades, from looking at the pause screen there's no planned gun upgrades so far? A gun that could shoot through metal could add to replayability of levels, for example you could set up metal crates in a way that the only way past was to destroy them, players would have to come back to the earlier levels to get to these blocked off areas or something like that.
I'm losing the will to play. I don't know if it's just me, but the save feature isn't working. I came in from Mardek 1, and loaded my save file fine, but I noticed I only kept the things Mardek was wearing, and things he was carrying, whereas everything I had on the other character had gone. Something I hope is fixed for the next game in the series. After a while of playing I decided to save it and stop playing, came back later and my save file had gone. So I started again, saved, left, came back and yet again I couldn't load it. Which is rather annoying seeing as this time i'd been playing for quite a while. Anywho, on to the actual review.
As I said, i'm really liking it so far. I'm so glad you've made it so that the game is pretty much completely played using the arrow keys and z and x. All the mouse use in Mardek 1 really didn't suit me ^^; I don't really have many complaints at the moment to be honest, one thing that I would like to see in the next episode is the ability to split stacks, I know you can change who gets what loot after a battle, but I think it'd be a whole lot easier if I was able to split the stacks of say potions etc. I love your humour, and the dialogue is great. Walking into that house of just "guys" and about one "girl" was hilarious :D
If there's any way you know of that'll fix the saving issue, please PM me or something. I really want to play this game but I dont' think i'll be able to do so in one sitting :P
There's just so much room for improvement, first of all the game is jam-packed with bugs, things like characters disappearing and turning into chests, enemies disappearing, randomly not being able to attack at the start of a turn, a fair few display bugs. Also I found out that I could decide which direction the enemy went by clicking on their direction boxes just before they moved...
Putting bugs aside, the gameplay was rather slow and repetitive. At first I didn't mind the speed at which the battles progressed, but in the later battles it's just such a bore, and Kronus and the archer only ever had 1 attack each, which was even more boring. Kage had a fair few different spells which was nice, but I found him rather pointless, Kronus and the archer could do the same, if not more damage than Kage but they didn't have to use MP. I think for this reason Kage's magic should've been stronger.
Also, the look of the characters didn't change after equipping new armour/weapons, for today's standards that's not going to do your game any favours.
I would really like to see a sequel of this game, because I did enjoy it, but I just think there's so much more you could've done. With faster, more varied gameplay, better balanced characters, harder enemies and more of a challenge (I finished the game at something like level 11), and weapons/armour that actually changed the characters look this game would be a winner.
Oh another thing, I noticed alot of the time the tiles that made up the battle ground's didn't align very well, also I think it would've looked better if there were more tiles under the top layer, going off the bottom of the screen to give the battle grounds a more solid look.
I hope you can take some advice from this review, because i'd reeaaally like to see a sequel.
At first, I felt everyone else's pain. Only being able to shoot one grenade at a time wasn't much fun, and the enemies didn't help, although they were pretty easy to get past. Once I got the double-shot however, I insantly found the game a whole lot more fun, it opened up a bunch of techniques adding a need for skill and timing to the game. I don't think this game deserves the low scores it's getting, I must admit before the double-shot I wasn't enjoying it, but the end result is just so much fun. Great work :)
That was better than alot of sprite flashes i've seen, and it was only your 2nd flash, so wow...Gratz on that.
I look forward to seeing more, so I hope you continue making them, great job.
But that's all there really is to say about it.
Gameplay was slow, and extremely repetitive.
It wasn't really challenging, but having said that I only got to the 5th or 6th fight, because the enemy started using hadoken on me none-stop. So even if I tried to move I was just standing at the other end of the arena blocking. I think a bar needs to be added which would be something like the special gauge, once it depletes fighters can no longer use special moves until it recharges.
The graphics were good for flash, but there's nothing more to keep me playing.
I enjoyed this game very much. The visual side of things were very nice, as were all the game mechanics. I played using the arrows keys and space, which was nice and simple, but the ammount of moves you could pull of just by pressing space in different ways at different times was great. I really loved the sword clashing sytem too ^^ One bad thing I do have to say is I really didn't like how you turned to face the enemy that hit you last, this got me killed on quite a few occasions and I find it unnecessary. I really look forward to the full game, although it'd be nice to see something to mix up the game play a little, something like leveling, different weapons..That sorta thing.
This game is great in every way, playing it was alot of fun. Only thing is I found it abit too easy, especially the boss fight..But I don't think that's worth marking it down, great job.

I could listen to this for ages...In fact I have!
It's such a catchy tune, and your animation fits really well. I hope ya find a way to get rid of that tiny pause in the loop.
